Which Mummy Am I?

name: Mel

date entered: 07/02/2007

country: Australia

story:

We've all heard the terms Yummy Mummy (size 8-10 stunners that look more like virgins than mothers), Stay At Home Mum (SAHM), Working Mum, Super Mum (a SAHM and Working Mum combo), and the new ones: Smart Child-centred Active Mums (SCAMS) and Smart Middle-class Uninvolved Mums (SMUMS).

And then there are the underground terms - usually the ones that men come up with.  I was shocked (perhaps due to my naive upbringing) to hear the term used by my husband shortly after the birth of our first child.  And that was MILF - Mothers I'd Like To....(you can work the rest out).  Apparently men judge mothers like that often.  And of course I HAD to ask him if he considered me to be a MILF, to which he HAD to reply "yes" otherwise the punishment would fit the crime.

So, in thinking about which mother I am or would like to be - I decided that though I secretly desire to be a Yummy Mummy (what woman wouldn't?) I really don't like that term or any of the others.

I've decided that I'd like to coin my own term - a BYM - Be Yourself Mum.
