My Own Reflux Baby - Help!

name: Tania_Jane

date entered: 21/10/2007

country: Australia

story:

I've just left hospital after a very long weekend after been rushed there when my 8wk old daughter stopped breathing.  I'm only 20yrs old; over the moon to be a young mum but I never expected for my baby to cry non stop about everything.

I took her to the doctors a few times. Everyone just said it was a colic baby & there was nothing to be done and she would grow out of it. After many long nights & even longer days I began to wonder how other mums got through this if all it was was colic.  After some time in the hospital the doctor said to me she had silent Reflux.

My 1st reaction was "that's it", but after talking to the nurses & learning about it I realized it was the reason for all the stress in the house.  It's extremely hard on me & my partner.  For the last 2mnths that she has been here she has wanted nothing to do with anybody, not even her father. She cries the moment anybody else holds her and I haven't showered alone for 2mnths! She is now on food thickeners & we have been home for 1day now but nothing has changed. Reflux seems to be just a word to describe a "chucky baby". Even before I had my own reflux baby I thought nothing much of it. Now I'm struggling just to get through the days. I've come looking on this site to meet mums with Reflux babies for a bit of advise? HELP

Administrators note: I have emailed Tania_Jane with some ideas/support, but anyone else wishing to do so can on the discussion board under the 'Children with Special Issues' section in the 'Reflux Issues' forum.  Your comments may also be helpful for other mums dealing with these issues.
